Pleats Please by Issey Miyake: Review

Friday, 23 August 2013

I am so excited to tell you all about this fragrance. It’s the latest launch from Issey Miyake (I always adore his fragrances) and it’s called Pleats Please. The previous launch was the L’Eau d’Issey Absolue (review link) which I literally fell head over heels in love with and want to buy again and again and again. This one isn’t much different…

The fragrance tag line is ‘the perfume that moves you’ and is named after his latest collection which makes use of his signature pleated fabric in beautiful, bold colours. The bottle design is a combination of this fabric and Pleats Please Bag. I have to say this bottle design is most probably in my top 3 – it is absolutely beautiful!

The fragrance is also as pretty – and, strangely enough (as I’m not much of a floral scent-wearer), I have got a compliment pretty much every time I have worn this! The scent was created by Aurélien Guichard and is a fruity, floral fragrance that opens up with an intriguing aroma of nashi – an Asian fruit that is in-between a pear and an apple. The middle notes are full of femininity with florals like peony and sweet pea. The base is made up of more woody scents which make it so appealing to me. These are patchouli, cedar, vanilla absolute and white musk.

The scent is in Edgars and Red Square from 19 August and will later go into Stuttafords and Foschini. Some good news is that the scents longevity is pretty amazing and seems to pretty much last the whole day. It is a powerful scent so a little goes a long way. This is one of those bottles I am already dreading finishing!

To add to the collection Issey have also launched a Pleats Please Body Lotion which I tested during the launch – it smells fresh and would be the perfect summer lotion as it felt light and silky! See RRP below:

EDT 30ml (R540)
EDT 50ml (R745)
EDT 100ml (R1025)
Deodorant Spray 100ml (R515)
Body Lotion 200ml (R600)

  6. The bottle is a bit weird, but I do like the smell. It reminds me a little of Elie Saab Le Parfum - on first spritz :)
