Pet Peeves #4

Monday, 27 February 2012

I actually did this post a while back and have slowly been adding to it, and I think today is the day that a Pet Peeves post is due, well actually long over-due!

Here my list is, feel free to share yours:

  • People who drive at 50 km/h

  • Burnt coffee

  • My Blackberry – it is driving me mad at the moment

  • People who post their horoscopes on Twitter and Facebook and more importantly – people who share these extremely disturbing rhino/animal abuse/sick child images on Facebook because $1 get’s donated. I promise you $1 does not get donated, please stop. Please.

  • Voice messages on my work phone. Who has time to listen to voice messages?

Right, that’s all for now :)

  2. I have a pet peeve for today. And it's a heavy one, so brace yourself.

White people in this country who say that SA is in a state of reverse Apartheid [I just saw this on a Facebook comment thing and my blood is boiling].

    REALLY?!

How many white people do you know who live in a shack in a township?

How many times have you been asked for your dompas?

How many times have you been told you may not live in a certain area because it is for black people only?]

How many times have you, as a 50 year-old, been called a "boy" or a "girl" by someone in high school?

How many times did you spend a year in school where you were taught in Zulu/Xhosa, despite the fact that you don't understand it?

How many years in school were you taught how to clean a house and do gardening because that is all you're good for as a white person?

How many times have you been held without trail for 90 days in prison, while being tortured, and killed, and not a WORD is breathed about it afterwards?

    How many times? Tell me.

THAT is my pet peeve for today. Sorry for being heavy but wow, white people in this country need to calm down and put their problems into perspective.

Speaking of calming down, I need to, too.

    Bye :)

    1. Couldn't agree with you more on this one Lize. Actually had a little reality check on this one (as all of get every now and again) while meeting a Zimbabwean family who have nothing, yet are the most amaizng people. It breaks my heart...

  3. I most definitely agree with the rhino/animal abuse/sick child images. I don't want to open up Facebook to find horrific images that I never asked to see. I normally unsubscribe from their posts immediately.

  6. While I agree to some extent with the animal abuse/rhino slaughter pics etc etc and usually the $1 is a scam, In some cases they are needed in terms of you being given the option to make a donation to a specific cause or animal being posted.

I do feel that if you want to see it and do something about it, you can follow darg or tears which i do.
However, I do sometimes post specific cases on my wall and it has lead to donations being made and even an adoption here and there so while I don't like to upset people, it really has given a lot more hope to the animals who may have been overlooked before.

    just a thought

    1. I agree with you as the things you are probably posting are personal cases and charities that you know of, I also post these one's. But the completely irrelevant posts that are re-posted without much thought annoy me. Like when it's a child in the states that no one even knows - I think it should be kept personal. Just my opinion :) x
